A Visit to Hiroshima: Part 2

Hello everyone and welcome come back to Tiro Finale for the second part of our Hiroshima trip. In this part, we will be taking a look at the iconic Hiroshima Castle located roughly 15 minutes away on foot from the city center. Having spent the first half of the day around the Peace Memorial Park and Hiroshima's Downtown area, we decided to spend the last few hours here.

With a large portion of the cities buildings and landmarks destroyed or subsequently razed by the atomic bomb, a large proportion of the buildings in Hiroshima are relatively new. These include the tourist attractions, many of which only popped up following the war.

Hiroshima Castle is no exception with much of the structure completely obliterated following the bombing with only the building foundations remaining. Ever since then, the gradual reconstruction process to bring the Hiroshima Castle and its surrounding grounds have been more or less completed.

Because of its nature as a reconstructed castle, the castle is in absolutely pristine condition with no sings of age or wear that you normally associate with traditional Japanese castles. Moreover, you can even observe modern safety features incorporated into the building's design. Namely, the fence located on the top floor.

From the castle's ground level, one can get a good view of the surrounding city and the mote that encircles the castle grounds. The mote itself is fairly large as is the walk up from the castle gates up to the actual castle.

The castle is open to visitors daily from 9 am to 5 pm with admission into the castle itself requiring a ticket. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to head up the castle which I am certain would have had an even better view of the city.

Looking up from the castle's courtyard, the Hiroshima Castle stands on the tallest plot of land and with a towering view of he entire surrounding area. What makes for a nice picture today is actually of massive strategic importance in the past.

So, if you do ever find yourself in Hiroshima, make sure to check out the Hiroshima Castle even if it is only just to visit the castle grounds. With that, we come to the end of the second part of our Hiroshima trip. The last and final part will be covering the various anime-related shops in the aforementioned downtown of Hiroshima. Until then, thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a great day ahead!
